The Balassi Institute is the Hungarian equivalent of the British Council or the Goethe Institut, and has been active since March 1st, 2007. It has set the popularization of Hungarian culture as it’s goal, but also takes part in drawing on the experiences of the large Hungarian diaspora, and letting their voices be heard in Hungary. The institute also plays a role as a monetary institution for the international spread of Hungarian culture, and plays a crucial role in the networking activities that this position entails. The London branch, the Hungarian Cultural Center In London is dedicated to sponsoring Hungarian values, culture, contemporary and classical art and music, and organizes informative programmes promoting them. They also play a role in unifying the Hungarian community in London.
